Bizarre language find of the day: one of my favourite words, overmorrow(the day after tomorrow), has no equivalent undermorrow (the day before yesterday).

Stupid computer geek brain: “I have a full terabyte of stuff I want to ensure I keep. Obviously that means I need hundreds of dollars worth of NAS equipment”
Galaxy computer geek brain: “Put it on a USB hard drive, unplug the drive, throw it in a drawer. Cold storage. Done.”
Has anyone out there changed their Apple ID email address? Is doing so a recipe for disaster?
Does anyone know if there’s an action camera out there, like a go pro, that just records straight to your phone? Rather than bothering with all the SD cards and tiny internal storage and what not?
I just noticed in the opening credits of Lower Decks, the battle the Serittos runs away from is against the Borg AND the Crystaline Entity. A hilarious deep cut.
Every time I think I’ve finally started to understand how git works, I realise I’m still nowhere near actually understanding what’s really happening.
I looked at getting an iPad Magic Keyboard to replace my broken Logitech keyboard and broken Magic Mouse. But they’re so ridiculously overpriced that I can buy a regular Magic Keyboard, a Magic Trackpad and a Magic Mouse and be left with almost $100 spare. Utter rip off
If you’re learning French here’s a little tip to recognise words. If a vowel has a ^ (circumflex) over it, it’s a historical marker, saying it originally had an s after it, eg:
Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Extremely entertaining. Even better curled up in a blanket at home instead of at the cinema. Sorry theatres, it’s time to join Internet cafes in the Universe of Not Quite as Good as Being at Home.
Have a distinct feeling I’ll be watching Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness tonight. Since it’s out on Disney+. Why would you ever go to the movies? Just wait six weeks and you get it at your house for no additional cost.
The geek’s dilemma. Do I rebuild my now broken raspberry pi setup (thanks lightning strike!), and maintain a small low power server doing what I need it to? OR, do I just get the services my raspberry pi runs going using Docker on my Mac, which is on most of the time anyway?
Wednesday night is Obi-Wan Kenobo night. Tea poured, several squares of chocolate prepped. Red 5 standing by. Go!
Having a job sure does cut down on social media and other non-work activity time. Do not recommend.
I like to think of myself as a sugar-free coke expert. Coke Zero and No Sugar are being replaced with Zero Sugar in Aotearoa. So I tried all three back to back, and… Zero Sugar tastes pretty much the same as No Sugar. Maybe a touch “sweeter”.
Just cruising along in a million dollar chauffeur driven EV. How’s your Friday evening going?
I’ve been having network issues for the last week. Things not loading, stalling, everything being dog slow. The issue was with the PiHole DNS server on my raspPi. I’ve not tried debugging it yet, but switching to my ISP’s DNS was like someone turned the internet back on.
I love Climate Town. Who Actually Controls Gas Prices? - Climate Town
Always nice going to the dentist and them saying “you’re doing well. Healthy gums, well done on the flossing and let’s just polish up your gnashers and you’re good to go.” Would have been perfect if I wasn’t up for another crown.
If you’re in to Dinosaurs (with feathers!), great CGI and David Attenborough, Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV+ is on this week, with a new episode every night. That’s my week’s entertainment sorted.
1.) What did I just watch? 2.) Why doesn’t every album come with a production extravaganza like this!?
I know it’s winter when I break out my serious jumpers. The ones where even I, as a rather rotund gentleman, am left swimming in warmth and comfort. Happy mid May everyone.
My Fastmail free trial ends in a few days. My opinion at the moment is it’s really good, and I’m going to use them for a year and then reassess.
And just like that, my G-Suite account is gone. Now for my gmail account - which I’m almost 100% sure I can never ever get rid of. But it costs Google money to provide it so I’m fine with it for now.
I’ve had a free G-Suite account for 12 years. I’ve migrated all my email away from it. The time has come to press delete (something I’ve wanted to do for ages). Time to burn that G-Suite account to the ground.
So I know that micro.blog has Mastodon integration, and that it all appears on the timeline. But I haven’t noticed anyone here using it and talking to people on other servers… am I missing a big part of mb that’s locked into Mastodon too?
